9th Whitehead Conference in Katowice-PanewnikiProcess Education - from School to LifeMay 11-12 2012
Welcome to the official website of the 2012 Whitehead Conference in Katowice-Panewniki, Poland, 11-12 May 2012! Please note that a detailed description of the submission process is contained in the official call for papers. Introduction and scope:In the age of major cultural changes, especially in morality, politics and social relations, and in the times of a worldwide crisis, the form and role of education is vital and crucial. Many people are oncerned about schooling; about schools which have lost contact with life. We propose a working
definition of education as ‘a process of integral adaptation of humans to their environment(s)'. ‘Process education’ can be understood either in a classic way, or in the spirit of Whitehead’s organic philosophy. ‘Environment’ can be understood narrowly or in a broader sense that would include inner, natural and spiritual environments. Is it possible to make such a process of adaptation integral? What does ‘integral’ really mean? Our conference aims to deal with these fundamental problems and their possible solutions.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to::
* is the idea of ‘subject’ in education still alive?
* interplay among formal, non-formal and informal processes in education;
* the aim(s) of education as a lifespan process;
* place and role of natural environment in process education.
How to apply:
The official languages of the 2012 Conference are English and Polish, and there will be separate sections for Polish- and English-speaking participants. Location:The IX Whitehead Conference will take place at the St. Bonawentura's Franciscan Seminary in Katowice-Panewniki, Poland, just like all our previous conferences and numerous other events. For more information concerning the conference venue, including travel tips, please consult this link . Conference Fee and Accomodation:Please note that the basic conference fee of 15 euro (50 PLN) does not include accomodation. However, for the convenience of the participants, there will be a free-of-charge bus service from the Katowice city centre (directly from the two suggested hotels) to the Conference venue.
